idioms - a slideshow of some of the common idioms
Here is a slideshow of some common idioms (round 10) with illustrations and examples. I used this in my class and I hope students will benefit from it, start using it and look at it as a nice way to express themselves ;)
~Reading~ Poem
~*~
Reading
~*~
When you read, words plant a seed
And slowly day by day
Flowers of thoughts grow within,
never fading away
But come to stay, to say
That you are no longer the same
Though still called by your old name
They sweep you by
You resist them or at least try.
But books bind you down
Becoming your crown
& you find yourself walking around
remembering images ,
recalling unheard sounds
singing songs that you read
It’s all in your head!
But a book can be a daily bread
From which your mind and thoughts are fed!
So feed them well
And wisely choose their realm to dwell!

Take a Poem to Lunch by Denise Rodgers
Take a Poem to Lunch by Denise Rodgers
I'd love to take a poem to lunch
or treat it to a wholesome brunch
of fresh cut fruit and apple crunch.
I'd spread it neatly on the cloth
beside a bowl of chicken broth
and watch a mug of root beer froth.
I'd feel the words collect the mood,
the taste and feel of tempting food
popped in the mouth and slowly chewed,
and get the smell of fresh baked bread
that sniffs inside and fills our head
with thoughts that no word ever said.
And as the words rest on the page
beside the cumin, salt and sage,
and every slowly starts to age,
like soup that simmers as it's stirred,
ingredients get mixed and blurred
and blends in taste with every word
until the poet gets it right,
the taste and smell
and sound and sight,
the words that make it fit.
Just write.

Happy New Year 1434
Here is a simple, warm
happy New Year wish
written in English ;)
& sent your way
Wishing that happiness
will shine in your life every day.
I wish you ...
friends that are honest and true
people who would always stand by you.
I wish you …
beautiful true dreams to chase.
The strength to embrace
every new day
bask in the sun ray
and walk your way
and always believe
success is yours to achieve.
I wish you gifts of love
Sent from heaven above
Peaceful and true
Remember ..
my prayers are only meant for you ;)
I wish you sparks of laughter
And happy things to come after
Bunch of smiles J
That would always shine
Through the miles.
In this year of fourteen, thirty four
I wish that you would achieve
all that you couldn't before,
That you would all the way
have around you
those whom you adore.
I wish
That you'd always remember me by
These wishes I send your way
Not to utter a sigh
Not to say goodbye
But to always pray
Whether night or day
For this humble soul
That loved you all.

You need to fall (a poem inspired by Felix's jump)
Sometimes you need to fall
just to learn how to stand tall!
How to rise again
from the ashes of the pain!
How to take the next step to be
what you've always meant to be!
How to dare...
to be there...
to face the questioning doubtful glare
prove them wrong!
as you sing your song!
Sometimes
you need to try
even if it means that you'd die!
You see...
the path of glory
is never meant to be
for someone
as quiet as weak and meek as thee!
someone who would curl away
with a cry and a sigh
waving his dream goodbye!
remembering it merely in a lullaby!
Remember
just to learn how to stand tall!
How to rise again
from the ashes of the pain!
How to take the next step to be
what you've always meant to be!
How to dare...
to be there...
to face the questioning doubtful glare
prove them wrong!
as you sing your song!
Sometimes
you need to try
even if it means that you'd die!
You see...
the path of glory
is never meant to be
for someone
as quiet as weak and meek as thee!
someone who would curl away
with a cry and a sigh
waving his dream goodbye!
remembering it merely in a lullaby!
Remember
Success...
is what you achieve
when you hold on
to what you really believe!
Never grieve
as you weave
the next installment
of the story
of your glory!
Sometimes …
You need to choose
to fall ...
surrender to the deafening
maddening inner call
"come what may!"
You may say!
Then…
fall
and
win it all!
TODay!
is what you achieve
when you hold on
to what you really believe!
Never grieve
as you weave
the next installment
of the story
of your glory!
Sometimes …
You need to choose
to fall ...
surrender to the deafening
maddening inner call
"come what may!"
You may say!
Then…
fall
and
win it all!
TODay!

Reading is like.... "Quote"
"Reading a book is like undergoing a chemical reaction. You’ll never be exactly the same when you finish a book, because every book has the power to teach you, encourage you and shape you".

Phenomenal Woman
I stumbled upon this poem last night and I thought I'd better share it with you. It would be here for future reference as well ;)
I've also included a YouTube video of the poem read by Angeleou herself ;)
Phenomenal Woman
Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.
I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.
Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.
Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size

I'm back and I got this small gift for you ;)
I'm back here…after being away on a trip, struggling with post-travelling depression then being busy, being simply distracted and a bit blue and most importantly feeling like having nothing to post here!!
My apologies to you if you are still out there waiting for a post from me ;)
Let's get serious…shall we?
and let me rant a bit hoping that you wouldn't mind it.
I watched the movie {The Raven, 2012} today (Tuesday: 17 July 2012). I actually struggled to get it downloaded after many attempts of getting fake torrents . Today, I decided to get it no matter what! and found myself going through the labyrinth of some maddening links that kept on leading me to almost nowhere!!
Whatever!!
I was able to get it and that's what matters - apart from wasting hours on finding the correct torrent!
I decided to save people from going through the same trouble that I got through in order to enjoy watching this movie. Wouldn't you agree that posting the correct link and torrent would be a nice idea?? ha?
But allow me first to share with you why I enjoyed the movie; I actually expected it to be a very good one, given the good rating it got as you can check on IMDb {The Raven 2012} and the fact that I always enjoy this formula of mixing mystery, clever poetic script and old times costumes and setting. Moreover, it is inspired by the famous American poet , author and critic Edgar Allen Poe (One of my favourite authors)who is actually one of the main characters in the movie. There is also John Cusack whose movies are almost always worth watching. And did I mention that they quote some of my very favorite poems of Poe's, such as "Annabell Lee" and "A Dream within a Dream", the later is such a wonderful touching poem that I used to memorize by heart ;)
If you are still unsure whether this is the type of movie that you'd like to watch then perhaps watching the trailer would help you make up your mind ;)
Ok…enough of my babbling
and here is the torrent you've been waiting for ;)
and here is the torrent you've been waiting for ;)
One more thing, kindly leave a comment here so I'd know that the links are working well ;)

In love with words
Those who are in love with words might relate to this piece and enjoy it ;)
Starving for words!?
and their magical rewards...
Starving for moments
drawn
with hushed tone!!
Do you really wait
for the next utterances date?
praying night and day
that they won't go astray!
and lose their path!
causing your wrath!?
No retreat
is permitted
for thoughts
have to be committed
& submitted
again
and again
to this excruciating
process of pleasure and pain!
Words are haughty
and quite naughty
You can never drag them hither
and bind them forever!
They like to dwell
within their own cell
At times they compel
you to wait
at their very gate!
and if you are lucky
you might catch a glance
of a word or two
and have the romance
of dancing with words
so true ;)

~*~ The small little things~*~ (to my adorable silent reader who asked for more poetry ;)
Viva to the small little thing\s
With the joys they bring
Viva to a small coffee cup
Sitting Between the two
Sharing smiles
Laughter
A point of view!
Viva to a moment of care
A smile to share
A step to dare!
Viva to a delicate bloom
Brightening up a room
Erasing gloom!
Viva to you
A being of intricate hue/s
Sometimes realizing clues
At times blinded by your own blues
But always hopeful
Always wishful
Realizing that there is a new day
To start anew
to find another way
to be perfectly You!
Through and through!

10 ways to think Positively No matter what!
1. Count your blessings at the end of every day – don’t focus on the problems you’ve faced that day; rather, think of all the good things that happened and the happiness they gave you.
2. Think of others rather than yourself – when you do things, even the smallest favors, for other people who mean something to you, you feel good about yourself.
3. Be proactive rather than reactive – instead of fretting over a problem and letting it stress you out, focus on how to resolve quickly and effectively. When your mind is busy trying to find a solution, you stop feeling sorry for yourself and start thinking positively.
4. Don’t allow your mind to remain idle – it may be clichéd, but it’s also true that an idle mind is the devil’s workshop. So stay busy and keep doing something or the other to prevent negative thoughts from creeping in.
5. Get an hour of exercise every day – even a brisk walk in the morning or evening will do your mental health a world of good.
6. Allow yourself some “me” time – set aside some time every day or every few days for yourself when you get to choose what you want to do; read a book, listen to music, catch up with friends, or just laze around. When your soul is nourished, you find that positive energy flows.
6. Allow yourself some “me” time – set aside some time every day or every few days for yourself when you get to choose what you want to do; read a book, listen to music, catch up with friends, or just laze around. When your soul is nourished, you find that positive energy flows.
7. Stop negative thoughts before they form completely – if you find yourself becoming depressed because your mind is taking a negative bent, stop those thoughts in their tracks and start consciously thinking of positive things.
8. Spend time with people who love you and make you feel good about yourself – quality relationships make life worth living.
9. Anytime you feel that the weight of your burden is hard to bear, talk to a friend or someone with a sympathetic ear – even if they cannot do anything to help you out, just the fact that you have someone on your side is uplifting enough.
10. And finally, look around you before you start to feel sorry for yourself – there are people in situations that are a hundred times worse than yours, yet they manage to get through each day.
So tell yourself that you have a good life, count your blessings, and learn to stay positive no matter what.
